High Wizard Apocalypse build: MVP, raid and PvP
High WizardAs of 13 October 2026 (SEA, Lv.90, Apocalypse Season 1)

High Wizard plan for Lv.90 and Apocalypse Season 1 in SEA: Fire with Infernal Flames and Angel Set II for MVPs and Calamity Zone raids, Ice-Lightning with Frozen Gale and Sprint Set IV for PvP, plus cards, starcore traits and runes for each mode.
Our take
The RO New World team's own view
- This plan is for High Wizards at Lv.90 who want one setup for bosses and one for players. If you hunt MVPs or run Calamity Zone, build Fire. If you mostly fight players, build Ice-Lightning.
- Get a Lv.90 staff with the right class trait first: Infernal Flames for Fire, Frozen Gale for PvP. For the raid, build Guard on armor, cape and shoes before Break, and only then chase red rolls.
- The biggest trap is keeping Ice-Lightning for bosses because it was the safe pick before Lv.90. On Taiwan's server it did only about 60% of its training-dummy damage on real bosses, so their PvE mages moved to Fire.
- Our verdict: Fire with Infernal Flames and Angel Set II is the best High Wizard PvE build of this season. Keep Ice-Lightning with Frozen Gale and Sprint Set IV for PvP. If you can afford only one Apocalypse staff, take Infernal Flames, because it also works on players.
Key findings
Fire for bosses, Ice for players
On Taiwan's server, Ice-Lightning did only about 60% of its training-dummy damage on real bosses. After Lv.90, their PvE mages switched to Fire with Infernal Flames, which makes a monster count as Earth so Fire hits it hard. Ice-Lightning is still the PvP pick, because Storm Gust freezes players.
Traits stay on one weapon
Apocalypse traits belong to the item they are on. Fire for PvE and Ice for PvP means two Apocalypse staffs. If you can afford only one, Infernal Flames also has a player part (70% chance to treat a player as Earth, +20% damage), so one Fire staff covers both modes.
Damage vs Demi-Human does exist
Hydra Card (damage vs Demi-Human +12 to 20%), Mirage: Dracula Card (+3.6 to 6%) and the Apocalypse trait DMG vs Human% (4.05 to 6% at red, weapon and accessory) all add damage against Demi-Human. Three of the five raid bosses (Amon Ra, Pharaoh, Anubis) are Demi-Human, so Hydra and this trait belong in the raid and PvP builds.
Armor
Wear the Angel Set II
Angel Set II
BestBest for MVP and raid
- Set: INT +5, DEX +5, magic damage +2.5%
- Each piece: magic damage +2.2%, plus +0.4% per refine level
- All 3 at +10 (orange): magic damage +21.1% in total
- Best for the most damage when your cast time is already fine
Sprint Set IV
OptionBest for PvP
- Set: SP cap +5%, magic damage +2%
- Each piece: variable cast time -3%, M.ATK +26, plus +0.38% magic damage per refine level
- All 3 at +10 (orange): magic damage +13.4%, cast time -9%, M.ATK +78
- Best for PvP, slow casting, or running out of SP
Odin Set III
SkipSkip
- Set: STR +6, INT +6, ATK +2%, M.ATK +2%
- Each piece: +0.24% magic damage per refine level, so +7.2% for all 3 at +10
- Made for hybrid STR/INT classes; half its stats are wasted on a mage
Goibne Set III / Elemental Set IV
OptionOnly if you keep dying
- Goibne set: Wind, Earth, Water and Fire skill damage taken -5%, VIT +6, Max HP +800, P.DEF +20
- Elemental set: Wind, Earth, Water and Fire skill damage taken -5%, Max HP +3%
- No magic damage at all. A Taiwan player: "I don't wear Goibne and I don't die."
Values are orange (gold) quality. Royal pieces have the same bonuses plus more HP. In a Taiwan test with the Lv.80 versions, Angel beat Sprint by 3-5% total damage and beat Odin by 9-10%.

How to play
- Cast Mystical Amplification first, then Meteor Storm and Fire Pillar inside its window.
- Swap the race card before each MVP. For Demi-Human MVPs (Goblin Leader, Orc Lord, Orc Hero, Amon Ra, Pharaoh) use Hydra, and the accessory trait DMG vs Human% helps too.
- Fire-element MVPs (Golden Thief Bug, Eddga, Moonlight Flower, Chimera) resist Fire. Test whether Infernal Flames converts them before you commit; Poporing on the flex accessory slot is the Water option.
- Outside the raid, Aggressive and Defensive are worth almost nothing, so fill all 4 starcore traits with real stats and ignore color matching. Max HP% rolls only on armor, so take M.DEF% on the cape and DEF% on the shoes.
III · Calamity Zone raid
Raid build: Fire, defense first
Calamity Zone · 5 playersThe same Fire core as the MVP build. In the raid the season stats matter most: Guard (from Defensive traits) cuts the damage you take, and Break (from Aggressive traits) unlocks your damage. A dead mage does no damage, so Guard comes first.

How to play
- Guard before Break: activate Apocalypse on armor, cape and shoes first, and raise Guard to 80, then 160, then 240.
- Normal targets (Break / Guard): Amon Ra none, Pharaoh 80 / 80, Bloody Knight 160 / 80, Dark Lord 160 / 160, Anubis 240 / 160. Hard needs about 320 Break and 240-320 Guard; Nightmare about 560. Below the target your damage halves (Break) or you take up to +90% damage (Guard).
- Stellar Power: when all 4 traits on a slot are the same quality, that slot's season stats get +30% (blue) up to +100% (red). Mixed colors count as the lowest one.
- Season stats are 10 times stronger inside the Calamity Zone and almost nothing outside it. Start with Amon Ra and Dark Lord while your numbers grow.
- Bring a priest. Sanctuary is the party's main way to survive. On Anubis, don't burst too fast: too much damage too fast stacks mechanics and wipes the party.

How to play
- Storm Gust to freeze, then Lord of Vermilion and Jupitel Thunder. Timing your control spells matters more than raw damage.
- Guard barely helps in PvP: 150 Guard cut damage by only about 6% in a Taiwan test. Put starcore slots into real stats such as less damage from Demi-Human and less ranged damage.
- Ranged reduction is for Snipers and Night Watch, the players who kill mages fastest. Build armor, cape and shoes before the second accessory: if you die before Storm Gust lands, nothing on the weapon helps.
- Pyro 7 is the PvP color: +6% damage to players, and the target takes +4.5% damage. Swap Gale 4 for Geo 4 (-3% damage from players and a 10% max HP shield every 15s) if you die before your Storm Gust lands.
Still unknown
- Exact Lv.90 stat numbers. No source gives them. Our rule: INT 99, DEX for cast time, the rest in VIT.
- Whether players count as Demi-Human in this game. The PvP picks (Hydra, Mirage: Dracula, DMG vs Human%) assume they do, as in classic Ragnarok.
- How damage bonuses stack. The card advice assumes different bonus types multiply, as in classic Ragnarok.
- Whether Infernal Flames converts Fire-element MVPs often enough to make Fire work against them.
- Whether every boss can get Burn. Some may resist status effects, which would turn off Abnormal Damage Boost and Lumina; test on your first fights.
- Best pet: Piamette or Baphomet Jr. Both give -10% cast time.
- When SEA opens Calamity Zone Season 1, and whether SEA keeps Taiwan's Break and Guard targets.
- Whether the Ghost build with Soul Warp works after Lv.90. Nobody we found runs it yet.
